A tournament for everyone – the football inclusion day

30.04.2024
Football is for everyone! The fascination for football brings together people from the most diverse of backgrounds.

Football is for everyone! The fascination for football brings together people from the most diverse of backgrounds. Whether old, young, male or female, with or without a disability. To bring this powerful message to life and make it more tangible, there will be a very special event in the heart of our host city on European Inclusion Day. Four unified teams from the greater Stuttgart area will compete against each other on May 5, 2024. They are already playing the Group A matches at UEFA EURO 2024. Dr. Alexandra Sußmann, Stuttgart's Mayor for Social Affairs and Social Integration, Matthias Schöck, President of the Württemberg Football Association and Host City Ambassador Cacau will jointly open the Football Inclusion Day at 11.30 a.m. - followed by the match.

Clubs from blind and amputee football, as well as unified teams, will then showcase their sports. People with and without intellectual disabilities play together in the unified teams. Spectators will see how players without sight or amputees dribble the ball, pass and score goals at lightning speed. And experience the unifying power of football with us. The program is designed to be interactive so that inclusion can be experienced first-hand. This gives everyone the opportunity to try out the different forms of inclusive football.

The four teams in Group A that will compete against each other at UEFA EURO 2024 will be represented by the following teams in Stuttgart:

The football inclusion day in our host city will culminate in an award ceremony for the unified teams.

In addition to the pitch, there will also be changing rooms, tents for organization and an activation circle on Königsstraße. Here you can test your skills on a course and also use a measuring system to measure your speed when shooting at the goal. There will also be a food truck and an Espressomobil for catering.

The day will be hosted by Benjamin Layer. Two sign language interpreters will be on hand to simultaneously translate the spoken content into sign language. An inductive hearing system is also used to make music or speeches more accessible for people with hearing impairments. In order to receive these audio signals on their hearing aid, people with hearing impairments can borrow a pocket receiver at the event.

For blind or visually impaired people, a so-called LOC.id is set up, a system that works via Bluetooth and sends out orientation signals via an app or provides voice texts for audio tours.

The Football Inclusion Days are an initiative of the DFB Foundation Sepp Herberger. They will be organized around UEFA EURO 2024 together with the host cities, the DFB regional associations and other cooperation partners under the motto "Taking football to the heart of society". Ralph-Uwe Schaffert, DFB Vice President and Chairman of the DFB Foundation Sepp Herberger is emphatic: "I am sure that this will make the Football Inclusion Days the perfect stage to present the outstanding achievements of players with disabilities to a broader public."
