Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser visits Stuttgart on her UEFA EURO 2024 tour
130 days before the inaugural UEFA EURO 2024 match in Stuttgart, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser visited Stuttgart on Friday, as part of her tour of all the German host cities. Mayor Frank Nopper welcomed the Minister of the Interior to Stuttgart Arena. Nopper spoke of the huge anticipation for the UEFA EURO tournament: "We're delighted and grateful to be hosting five UEFA EURO 2024 games. Stuttgart is a hospitable city that loves sport and football. We demonstrated this impressively at the 2006 World Cup with our legendary chant: 'Stuttgart is much nicer than Berlin!'. We want to increase friendship between nations, a sense of community and enthusiasm for sport. And we want to reinforce the Stuttgart feeling and positively shape the image of Stuttgart in Europe and the world."
"Preparations for the European Football Championship are in full swing here in Germany-including in Stuttgart! We want to be an excellent, cosmopolitan host that stands for respect and diversity. The entire city of Stuttgart will become a stadium for the European Championships. I'm confident that as one of the ten host cities, Stuttgart will be a great flagship for our country," says Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser, adding, "Safety is my top priority. We aim to make the European Football Championship a thoroughly safe tournament: in the stadiums, at the public viewing, in the fan zones and everywhere else that crowds gather during the European Championship. The federal and state security authorities are making intensive preparations. And we're also working extremely well with many international partners. We're well prepared-and there is huge anticipation for this major football festival in our country."
During her visit to Stuttgart, the Federal Minister of the Interior also viewed progress on the redevelopmentof the Stuttgart Arena. This construction project is of great importance for the city and the club, asemphasised by Dr Thomas Ignatzi, Director of Finance, Administration and Operations at VfB Stuttgart: "AsVfB Stuttgart, we'd like to explicitly thank everyone involved in this project, especially the City of Stuttgart,for making the modernisation of our sporting home and the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament a reality in ourcity and region. This ambitious major project represents a milestone for VfB and we'll now successfullycomplete it together."
