Football Summer Open Air Cinema
On a total of four evenings – from 14 to 17 September 2023 – Host City Stuttgart invited its residents to the free Football Summer Open Air Cinema. Numerous guests turned up at the four venues Hospitalhof, Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Platz, Lukasplatz and Mozartplatz. The Keeper, the exciting story of the spectacular saves made by legendary goalkeeper Bert Trautmann, was shown on the big screen. Host city ambassador Cacau took the opportunity to welcome the guests with a message and get them in the mood for the film.
The film The Keeper tells the story of a man's eventful life between war, love and football. At the centre of the film is Bert Trautmann, a former Nazi soldier who becomes a hero after the war as a goalkeeper for Manchester City despite many obstacles and opposition from Jewish fans. "Traut the Kraut" became a legend in Manchester when he suffered a broken neck in a collision 17 minutes before the end of the 1956 FA Cup final, but nevertheless continued to play and held on for the win. A must-see for every football fan and cinema lover.
The people of Stuttgart shared this sentiment, making themselves comfortable in the deckchairs of Host City Stuttgart and enjoying the wonderful open-air cinema atmosphere in the best late summer weather with free popcorn.
