Living diversity and inclusion
Football
connects. As the host city of UEFA
EURO 2024, we would like to
contribute to increasing solidarity within the population.
Because this too
is sustainability; when all social groups were able to participate in
UEFA EURO 2024 and we all celebrated a football festival together. We
wanted to make the football tournament a multicultural event. A
colourful event where minorities are also represented and feel fully
integrated. In which gender equality is promoted. Where inclusion
takes place and easy accessibility for all is guaranteed. There is no
place for marginalisation, discrimination and racism. Fair play
counts in football – both on and off the pitch.
A human rights
policy was therefore drawn up for UEFA EURO 2024.
You were able to report human rights violations, such as cases of discrimination and interpersonal violence, to the reporting office. If you needed emotional support as a result of discrimination based on origin, skin color, religion, gender, sexual orientation and abilities or simply if you had a bad feeling, you could contact the awareness team in the Safer Space at the Karlsplatz fan zone. This Safer Space was part of the comprehensive awareness concept.
Actively breaking down barriers
The football festival, its infrastructure and all communication should be accessible to everyone. Everyone should feel welcome. We have worked together with various experts in inclusion and accessibility. For example, with the office of the representative for the interests of people with disabilities in the city of Stuttgart and with those affected who have a disability. To this end, the inclusion advisory board "Experts in their own cause" was founded and involved in the planning of the event.
In order to make the EURO 2024 Festival as accessible as possible, these measures, among others, have been implemented:
- There are pick-up and drop-off zones in the immediate vicinity of the Schlossplatz Fan Zone to make travelling to and from the event easier for people with disabilities.
- Entrance to events is accessible to people with disabilities.
- There is an Service Point for people with disabilities that offers a wide range of services.
- Volunteers provide assistance in getting around the Schlossplatz Fan Zone if required.
- Key points in the Schlossplatz fan zone are equipped with a mobile tactile guidance system for visually impaired people.
- At public viewings, areas have been created for people with disabilities and made accessible without barriers.
- An induction hearing system enables optimum sound reception via hearing aids.
- People with visual impairments can receive audio description of the matches via the UEFA EURO 2024 app.
- In addition to unisex toilets, there is a so-called "toilet for all" in the Schlossplatz fan zone for disabled people with complex needs and families with babies and small children.
Fostering participation
In our Fan Zone
Schlossplatz, the Württemberg Football Association is offered an
attractive platform on behalf of amateur football to present itself
and the importance of the clubs and voluntary work in society.
We are also committed to the
participation of disadvantaged children. In the run-up to the UEFA
EURO 2024, there were already campaigns with the Stuttgart education
initiative "Gemeinschaftserlebnis Sport" (Experiencing
Community Through Sport – GES) – such as a special school
tournament and a football night tournament. We are also
involved in the UEFA Foundation for Children's "10,000 Smiles"
project, where tickets are given away to almost
1,000 disadvantaged children.
And: People with disabilities have also been invited to apply as volunteers for UEFA EURO 2024 in the host city of Stuttgart. If required, also in tandem with an accompanying person. UEFA EURO 2024 in the host city of Stuttgart is a football festival for everyone.
